After that night, our next few months of dating was a series of laughter, sweet kisses, gentle, tight hugs, sleeping in each other’s arms, sweet nothings that always made my heart melt. Now, all of those memories had become a part of the distant past, no chances of ever recurring.
One day, when I woke up, I was surprised to see my door ajar with checkered balloons taped on it. They were all a variety of pastel colors. So with curiosity, I slipped out of bed, put on my slippers and walked out of the door. The corridor outside my room was the mouth of a river of flower petals, from roses, to sunflowers, to chrysanthemums, to magnolias, and tulips. ‘Wow. Whoever bought these must have had their wallet empty.’ I followed where they went. To the end of our hallway, and I turned to the left. After a few meters, I stood in front of our conference hall entrance. I couldn’t see anything from the inside because the portal was covered with strings of white fur. I was so enticed looking at the wall of clouds when a cold nose touched my feet. I jumped back before I looked down- a brown shih tzu! With all excitement, I picked it up and held it to my chest.
“Hey honey. Who owns you? Huh? Who’s inside? Who’s waiting for me?”
And then I saw that under the knot of the wide blue ribbon around its neck was a small card.
Bec, if you’re reading this now. You should know that curiosity killed the cat. However, this ain’t a punishment dungeon. So come inside. And please don’t name the dog Curiosity. It never killed a cat.
I giggled at the last statement.
“Let’s come back inside, Sachiko?”
So, I let in a deep breath, took a step forward, and prepared what’s in store for me.
Every smiling face and the cheers that greeted me were all a blur. What was only vivid to my eyes were his ever perfect features, standing in the middle of the crowd, a gigantic bouquet in hand. In the distance, I can see they’re composed purely of pink tulips. In his other hand was a big blue velvet pouch.
“Dane? What’s this racket about?”
He smiled as he walked towards me and handed me the bouquet. To free my hands, I let down the dog on my feet first. Astonishingly, it didn’t budge.
“I just wanna see how creative I can get.”
“From my bedroom door, until the hall entrance, I haven’t seen any original space on the floor, or on my door. Every single inch was decorated. Tell me there hasn’t been any effort in that. Please. This is too much. Satchiko would have been enough and I would have hugged you for too much joy.”
“Satchiko huh? So you already named her. Well. I have one question for you.”
“Spill it.”
“First, I want you to open this pouch.”
I took the pouch from his hands and eagerly reached for what was inside. There were two items. The first was a box with gold engravings on top: Rebecca Gerand. I gingerly lifted the lid and inside, I found a key. Not the usual type of keys, but the kind that opens treasure chests. It’s not just a key; it was almost six inches in length. Made of silver, encrusted with gold linings, and tiny gems ran up its spine.
“How did you know that I-“
“Well, I just had a hunch,” and he smirked.
“I don’t believe your hunch thing. This is too expensive. Aren’t you broke yet??”
“Course not.”
“Why don’t you look at the other thing?”
So, once again, I reached into the pouch and pulled out a velvet box, the type where rings go in. inside, I found a car key – my car key. I know it’s mine because of the marking I had engraved on its head: RG.
“Hey, I left my car at my house. Why do you have this?”
“I snatched it from your mom with my smile.”
“Uhuh? You jerk. Where’s my car then?”
“Outside. Promise, I didn’t smash it. But first, I want to ask you my question.”
I was edgy and excited at the same time. I just stared at him.
“Will you be my girl?”
I was dumbfounded. Beyond all the stuff he had done, waited this simple question. ‘Yes!’ That was my heart and mind in unison. But no words came out from me. Instead, I handed the bouquet to the nearest person behind me and encircled my hands around Dane’s neck. I responded him with a passionate kiss, trying to let him know my answer through our gentle lip battle. And when my eyes opened, I was surprised to see my car inside the hall. I didn’t even recognize it at first. He had the body repainted with vectors and retro all over. That was my plan for next year, because I was still earning for that. Yet, he did it for me. ‘God, I’ll be poor with this man. I can’t give him like what he has given me.’
“Baby?”
“Yes?”
“I know material things don’t budge you. Knowing the simple woman you are. But please, accept me?”
“I do, jerk. Every single thing you’ve done for me, was a feather to my heart. I’m already flying to the heavens. Those million petals outside, already spoke of your love for me. And I’m willing to begin my eternity with you.”

Kinda boring for me. Was it to you? I strived hard to think of all those mushiness.
Hope you liked it though.
